Welcome to the World of
Halten English

A Typical Day

Morning:
Start the day with a hearty English breakfast in a local bed&breakfast place. Chat to your landlord/landlady about your plans for the day. Use the Present Continuous ("Today I'm going to Winchester by train"). If you are not sure yet what to do, use the Will Future ("Maybe I'll play golf in Farnham").

After breakfast you have an English lesson at Halten Castle until lunch.

Afternoon:
In the afternoon there are several options:

Option 1:
Take the train to explore the historic City of Winchester. Have a close look at Winchester Cathedral, King Arthur's Round Table or King Alfred's statue. We recommend a rest at the Wyckam Arms which will take you back in time. Sit at pupils' desks and enjoy a traditional ale or a Pilsener style lager. If you are a bit peckish, try the small sausages (with English mustard), they are really excellent. There is also a Wetherspoon pub in the High Street if you need to look after your pennies.

Option 2:
Borrow one of our cyles (for free) and explore the nearby countryside on a
12-mile round trip (Church Crookham, Crondell, Well, Odiham, Winchfield, Dogmersfield, Crookham Village and Church Crookham). We will provide you with a map and more information.
If you get thirsty, don't worry (as if you would!) as every village, which you pass through, boasts at least one country pub. At the weekend you may be able to stop and watch village cricket in Odiham (you can get a drink in the clubhouse).

Option 3:
Borrow my golf bag (for free) and try your luck at the 9-hole course in Farnham (fairways between 100 and 150 metres long) or the full length 18-hole course in Farnborough. Generally speaking, the standard in Farnham is lower. After the game you can relax in hole 10 or hole 19.

Evening:
Normally there will be a two-hour lesson in a pub from seven to nine o'clock approximately. We will talk about the day and plan the next steps to develop your English skills further.
